ABOUT THE ARTIST

Richard Parish is the lead designer at Richard Parish Fused Glass, and he personally oversees every project. Trained in furniture design and construction, Richard also holds an honours degree and postgraduate diploma in environmental studies, and all of his work reflects his keen interest in the natural environment.

Through the art of fused glass I seek to express my understanding of our surroundings and environment, whilst enhancing each setting in which my work appears. Both fluid and solid, fused glass captures a moment in time, when the flow of molten material ultimately settles into its ideal form.

I believe art has the capability to influence the way the environment is perceived, so I draw on that environment for inspiration. Created to reflect its historical, cultural and natural context, each unique piece blends thematic elements specific to the location with structural and functional considerations, striving to create a dynamic interplay of light and colour that continually reforms itself, depending on the viewer’s perception.
